Primary Mission

Beaufort County Animal Shelter & Control's Mission is to promote responsible pet ownership, prevent the spread of animal borne diseases and protect the public by seizing public nuisance animals roaming throughout the County. To provide a temporary shelter for stray, unwanted or homeless animals, to maintain a vigorous adoption program to include health screening, vaccinations and mandatory spay or neutering of same. All activities shall be in compliance with state, federal and local laws and regulations and performed by a humane and professional staff.

Objectives I

  1. Enforce State, federal and local animal related laws.
  2. Reduce the number of unwanted animals in the community by promoting sterilization of all pets thereby reducing the number of pets euthanized.
  3. Provide effective Animal Control Services to protect the public from roaming/vicious animals and diseases spread by same.
  4. Provide Temporary shelter for stray and unwanted animals, maintain vigorous program to reunite stray pets with owners and have vigorous adoption program in place.
  5. Comply with State and National laws and guidelines when euthanasia is necessary.
  6. Hire and train a staff of caring professionals to carry out the goal and objectives.

Objectives II

  1. Enforcement of Animal related laws.
  2. Cruelty investigation and prosecution.
  3. A place to turn in unwanted or stray animals.
  4. A clean and pleasant environment to adopt a healthy pet.
  5. Effective Animal Control Services which protect citizens from the danger of roaming animals and reducing pet population.
  6. Assist DHEC in enforcement of Rabies Control Act.
  7. Provide an ACO on-call 24hrs a day 365 days a year to assist Law Enforcement and rescue injured or vicious animals.
  8. Pet License Program.
  9. Information and recommendations for individual being evacuated during disasters.
  10. Public Service talks and appearances to local schools, nursing homes and civic groups to increase awareness on animal related issues and pet overpopulation.
