EMERGENCY EVACUATION INFORMATION
PALMETTO BREEZE
The Palmetto Breeze transportation service is responsible for transporting Beaufort County residents to public shelters during a mandatory evacuation. In addition to Breeze buses, the evacuation process will include the use of school buses and human service agency vehicles.
The Palmetto Breeze will take you to a shelter located in an adjacent county if local shelters are not open. When the bus has made the last trip, the driver will remain at the shelter until the evacuation order is rescinded and clearance is given to return to Beaufort County.

Tips for riding the Breeze during an evacuation:
As you board the bus, you will be issued a colored wrist band. It is important to keep this wrist band to help the driver return you to the location where you originally boarded the bus.
- Find a seat quickly. Leave the front seats vacant for elderly and disabled passengers who may board after you.
- Take as few personal items as possible. There is limited space on the bus and in the shelters. No household furnishings, weapons, illegal drugs, or alcohol will be allowed on the vehicles. Please follow Beaufort County recommendations regarding what to bring with you.
- With the exception of service animals, pets are not allowed on the bus or in the shelters. For more pet information, please contact the Beaufort County Animal Shelter and Control at 843-846-3904.
- Passengers must have a picture identification to return to their homes.
- Plan Ahead!
The Palmetto Breeze provides street pick-up only. Door-to-door service required by medical necessity will be provided by the fire department or other emergency personnel.
