LIBRARY SUBSTITUTES
(Part Time/ As Needed)

Fill in on an as-needed basis for librarians on service desks throughout the Beaufort County library system. Provide core area service to library customers, which may include reference, circulation, youth services and/or technical services.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• MLS or MLIS degree from an accredited ALA Library School Program of study
• Three years public library experience in one of the fields of reference, circulation, youth services, technical services, and/or special collections
• Excellent customer service skills

LIBRARY ASSISTANT IV
Circulation Services Manager

Works as team leader and mentor coordinating circulation duties and responsibilities for four full time and five part time employees. Supervises, schedules and evaluates circulation desk staff. Trains staff for various tasks including the use of the automated SirsiDynix circulation functions. Along with staff, checks library books in and out, registers patrons for a borrower’s card and Internet use, answers phones, and provides customer service to library patrons.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

•Four-year college degree
• At least three years library experience
• At least one year supervisory experience
• Excellent customer service skills and problem solving abilities a must
• Willing to work flexible schedule including nights and weekends and able to cover staff shortages
• Familiarity with library circulation operations

LIBRARIAN I

Generalist librarian will plan and provide programs and services for library customers, especially children and teens. Duties to include reference services, coordinating volunteer services, publicity and displays, instructing and assisting customers using computers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an accredited ALA library school
• Eligibility for South Carolina Public Library Certification
• Aptitude for working with children and teens
• Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings and Saturdays
• Valid driver’s license

St. Helena Branch

LIBRARIAN I
Branch Manager

Responsible for the operation of a public library space shared with a rural elementary school. Supervises two part time staff members. Works with administrative team to plan, direct, promote and participate in the operations and activities in circulation, acquisitions, youth and information services.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program
• At least three years public service experience in a public library with increasing supervisory and management responsibilities
• Willingness to accommodate flexible scheduling is essential. Evening and weekend hours required.
