• Prior to applying for a business license, call the Zoning and Development Department for information at 843-255-2170. The Zoning and Development Department issues zoning permits and development permits, as well as sign permits, necessary to operate a business in Beaufort County. The department also conducts the Zoning Board of Appeals meetings. Zoning includes whether you can operate the type of business in your location.
• Any business in Beaufort County is required to obtain a business license and pay an annual business license fee. Applications for business licenses are applied for through the Business License Office. A $10 one-time fee is required to apply. Business licenses expire on December 31st. • Taxes such as the accommodations and hospitality taxes in Beaufort County generate revenue from transient rentals and prepared food and beverages.

  • The Admissions Fee is a fee equal to 2.5 percent imposed on the amount charged for the actual entry into admission-based places of amusement and entertainment within incorporated and unincorporated Beaufort County to which an admissions tax is imposed by the state.   • The 1-percent Sales Tax is a temporary tax passed by a 2006 voter referendum to fund such projects as transportation improvement.
