Any person desiring to be a candidate for the Town Council seats in the Town of Bluffton or Town of Port Royal General Election, November 7, 2017 must file a Statement of Intention of Candidacy – Non-Partisan form at the appropriate Town Hall, during regular business hours.

 Candidates must be an eligible voter within the town limits prior to the date of the election.

 The term is for four (4) years and is a non-partisan office.

Filing opens noon, August 9, 2017, and closes noon, September 8, 2017.

Filing Form:  The Statement of Intention of Candidacy – Non-Partisan form required for filing is available in the “Candidate Filing” section of the Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Beaufort County website, http://www.bcgov.net/vote and at the Town Halls at the addresses listed above.

 Filing Fee:  Filing fees are paid at the time of filing.  The filing fee for Town Council is $100.

State Ethics Filings:  Candidates are required to file a Statement of Economic Interests and a Campaign Disclosure online with the State Ethics Commission at http://ethics.sc.gov.  Failure to file these documents may result in a candidate fine but will not disqualify a candidate from the election.  Contact the State Ethics Commission for more information.

The School Board District 6 Special Election will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017.  Filing for the School Board District 6 is done by petition and requires 2 1/2% of the active registered voters in the district.  As of June 22, 2017, the number of signatures needed is 372.  The deadline to file by petition is Noon, August 15, 2017.

A few points to remember:

  • Petition forms MUST be on 8 1/2" x 14" paper. 
  • Once a petition is submitted, additional pages can not be submitted later.
  • The deadline to file is prior to NOON, August 15, 2017.  Filing can be done at the Beaufort or Bluffton Offices.
