County Convenience Center Operating Hours to Change Starting October 4, 2014

Effective October 4, 2014, the operating hours of all Beaufort County Convenience Centers will change.  This action is being taken as part of the County’s overall plan to prevent a tax increase and reduce County expenses.  “Economic restraints and particularly the conscience effort of County Council not to raise ad valorem taxes challenges County Administration to find ways that both serve the requirement for no additional taxes and permits continuation of this service,” said County Administrator Gary Kubic.

Staff reviewed traffic and usage patterns at the centers across several years and found that eliminating service from 7:00 am – 9:00 am would affect the least number of citizens using the centers. Wednesday was chosen as the day during the week to be closed, as traffic patterns showed that day as having the least use.  County Solid Waste Manager Jim Minor stated, “No matter which hours were chosen we knew a reduction of hours would unfortunately adversely impact some citizens using the centers. We made our decision based on a balance between traffic and usage data and operational considerations, such as the need for routine maintenance.”
