Form-Based Code

Beaufort County, the City of Beaufort, and the Town of Port Royal are embarking on an exciting effort to create walkable, dynamic communities and preserve rural areas through the development of a form-based zoning code. Form-based codes are place-based, requiring new development to fit within the context of the existing community. They place a primary emphasis on building type, dimensions, parking location and façade features, and less emphasis on uses.  This web site is your place for information and announcements as Beaufort County, the City of Beaufort, and the Town of Port Royal move forward to develop form-based codes for their communities.  Your participation and input can make a real difference in determining how our region will grow, develop, and redevelop.
