Mission Statement

Beaufort County Animal Services & Control's Mission is; to promote responsible domestic pet/livestock ownership, prevent the spread of animal borne diseases to other domestic pets/livestock and protect the public by seizing public nuisance domestic pets/livestock roaming throughout the County. To provide a temporary shelter for stray, unwanted or homeless domestic pets/livestock, to maintain a vigorous relocation program to include health screening, vaccinations and mandatory spay or neutering of same. All activities shall be in compliance with Federal, State and local laws and regulations and performed by a humane and professional staff.

Objectives I :
  1. Comply with Federal and State laws and local county ordinances.
  2. Reduce the number of unwanted domestic pets/livestock in the community by promoting sterilization of all domestic pets thereby reducing the number of pets euthanized.
  3. Provide effective Animal Control Services to protect the public from roaming/vicious domestic pets/livestock and diseases spread by same.
  4. Provide temporary shelter for stray and unwanted domestic pets/livestock, maintain vigorous program to reunite stray domestic pets/livestock with owners and have vigorous adoption program in place.
  5. Comply with state and national laws and guidelines when euthanasia is necessary.
  6. Hire and train a staff of caring professionals to carry out the goal and objectives.
Objectives II :
  1. Enforcement of Beaufort County Animal Ordinances.
  2. Cruelty investigation and prosecution.
  3. A place to turn in unwanted or stray domestic pets/livestock.
  4. Effective Animal Control Services which protect citizens from the danger of roaming domestic pets/livestock and reducing pet population.
  5. Assist DHEC in enforcement of Rabies Control Act.
  6. Provide an ACO on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist Law Enforcement and rescue injured or vicious domestic pets/livestock.
  7. Pet License Program.
  8. Provide information and recommendations for domestic pets/livestock to individuals being evacuated during disasters.
  9. Public Service announcements to groups to increase awareness on domestic pets/livestock-related issues and domestic pet overpopulation.
