Director of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Department:  Beaufort  County is seeking a new director for its Alcohol and Drug Abuse Department (BCADAD) due to the retirement of the current director after many years of dedicated service.  Since 1974, the BCADAD has helped individuals and families troubled by alcohol, tobacco or other drug related problems.  The BCADAD is licensed by the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC); it is also nationally accredited by CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) and certified by the SC Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services (DAODAS).  Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Under limited supervision, manages the programs, services, staff and activities of the department, to include personnel, fiscal and administrative matters
  • Serves as the lead liaison to local, regional, and state government officials and other public and private agencies to help plan and develop prevention and treatment programs
  • Reviews and evaluates program performance in accordance with established goals and objectives and all applicable county, state and federal guidelines
  • Represents the County in meetings with boards, commissions, public agencies and other groups
  • Develops and negotiates contracts with agencies or individuals for the delivery of services
  • Makes presentations to elected officials regarding programs and services as needed
  • Ensures quality standards and compliance with regulations are maintained
  • Serves as the department’s liaison to the Beaufort County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Board and helps to ensure the board’s compliance with applicable objectives and requirements
  • Ability to use personal computer equipment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

 

KNOWLEDGE

  • Applicable federal, state and local ordinances, codes, laws, rules and regulations and legislative issues.
  • Current trends in drug and alcohol abuse prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
  • Principles and practices of health administration and policy.
  • Public and private agencies related to the department’s function.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, counseling, education, health or human services, management, or social work.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • Ten (10) years of recent and directly related experience in a similar capacity as a manager, preferably in a local government organization 
  • Ability to forge a positive working relationship with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to present information, both written and orally, clearly and accurately
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback and take action as appropriate
  • Strong project and time management skills
